So for my next weaving project, I'm making a contemporary ethnographic textlie. Being that I live in Pilsen, and I am white, I am making my rug about gentrification. Note: I AM NOT FOR GENTRIFICATION. This textile is to merely illustrate how the white man, throughout history, has 'conqoured' many people and cultures, and then used those as capitalistic endevours. I am therefore integrating the ancient designs of Mexico, as well as religious iconography to then produce something you might see in IKEA advertised as, "The Hacienda Rug! Great for your back portch this summer!"
These are some of the images I've gathered from google for research thus far.
